If you’re seeing a high disk usage on your computer, it may be because there are some other processes running at high speeds that are not taking advantage of the available resources. If you can identify and disable these processes, your disk usage will likely drop.

Check Disk Usage in Windows 10
If you see a large number of apps on your disk, it may be because you have a lot of files and folders that are not being used. To fix this, you can use the Disk Cleanup tool to clean up any unused files and folders.
The CPU utilization is the percentage of time the computer is using the CPU. This can be a good or bad number, depending on what you’re doing on the computer. The Memory utilization is how much memory is being used by the computer. This can also be a good or bad number, depending on what you’re using the computer for. The Disk usage is how much space is being used by the computer. This can also be a good or bad number, depending on what you’re using the computer for.
In some cases, the high disk usage is due to one process. In other cases, the process that is causing the spike may change.
Don’t try to solve the problem yourself. This is a difficult task and can be very time-consuming. Instead, get help from others. In this article, we are going to discuss how we can determine what is causing the issue and then come up with a solution. However, before we do that, it’s important to avoid some common mistakes that can easily lead to frustration and a lack of success. So here are some tips:
- Don’t try to solve the problem yourself. This is a difficult task and can be very time-consuming. Instead, get help from others.
- Be patient. It may take some time for someone else to figure out what is happening and for the solution to be implemented correctly. Don’t get frustrated if it takes longer than expected.
- Be organized. Make sure you have all of the information you need before starting anything new or trying to fix an old issue. This will help you stay focused and organized while trying to resolve the problem.

Method 1 – Upgrade Firmware for SSDs
If you’re having the disk usage problem on your machine, it’s most likely because the firmware is not up to date. SSDs are fast and unless you have some program that is accessing the disk all the time, it should never be at 100% for more than a few seconds.
Some of the major SSD brands have released firmware updates for their products. The updates are available on the companies’ websites, and can be downloaded and installed automatically. ..
Method 2 – Perform a Clean Boot
If you have never performed a clean boot, now is the time to learn. A clean boot will help you determine whether the issue is being caused by Windows itself or by a third-party program installed on Windows.
Microsoft has a great article on how to clean boot. I recommend trying it because it usually fixes a lot of other issues too. It’s a bit time-consuming, but totally worth the effort. Just set aside a few hours on a weekend to get it done.
If you are experiencing a slowdown on your computer, the first step is to try and determine which program is causing the problem. You can do this by disabling each startup program one by one until you find the culprit. If you still experience a slowdown, then you may need to uninstall or disable the program. However, always start by disabling any third-party anti-virus/anti-malware program as they can have a tendency to access the disk all the time. ..
In online forums, I’ve heard a lot of people complaining that Skype was the cause of the disk usage spike. So I’m going to try uninstalling Skype and see if that works.
Method 3 – Upgrade Memory (RAM)
Windows 10 can run on devices with as little as 2 GB of RAM, but 4 GB is a good minimum. ..
Task Manager can be opened by clicking on the Performance tab and then clicking on Memory. ..
Windows uses your hard disk as a temporary memory device if you have less than 4 GB of RAM. ..
If you have a lot of data that has to be written to disk, it can cause your computer to slow down and your disk usage to spike. If you notice that the line in this graph is close to the top, then you probably need to upgrade the RAM on the computer.
Method 4 – Use High Performance Power Plan
The hard drives on some computers are smart and will try to save power by changing the speed of the drive to a lower RPM. One example is the Western Digital hard drives. I think this feature is great, but I have not had it work well in practice.
To avoid this problem, go to the Power Options menu and select the High Performance plan. Additionally, click on Change plan settings and then expand Turn off hard disk after and set the minutes to 0. ..
This will ensure that the hard disk does not power down or go into the low power state, which can cause the disk usage problem.
Method 5 – Disable MSI Mode
Microsoft has acknowledged that some users are experiencing problems with their hard drives after upgrading to Windows 10. The company has released a solution that involves changing the way AHCI is configured in the operating system. This solution may not be suitable for everyone, but it’s worth mentioning because Microsoft has specifically stated that this is an issue with Windows 10. ..
Disk Usage on your computer may seem to be at 100%, but if you sort the column, you’ll see that there is no one program or process that is using a lot of disk space. You can read the Microsoft KB article here and try to fix the issue. ..
Method 6 – Disable Windows Defender with 3rd Party AV
To disable Windows Defender, you can either uninstall it or add it to your system’s startup. To do this, open the Start menu and type “cmd” and then press Enter. Then, under “Command Prompt”, type “netstat -an” and press Enter. If Windows Defender is enabled, the command will show that it is running and will tell you that it has been disabled by default. If Windows Defender is not enabled, the command will show that Windows Defender is running but is disabled because you have another anti-virus program installed on your system.
To check if Windows Defender is enabled or not, click on Start, then Settings, Update & Security and then Windows Defender. Make sure Real-Time protection and Cloud-based Protection are turned On. ..
Please only do this if you have third-party anti-virus installed on your system.
Method 7 – Disable Windows Notifications
Disable Windows 10’s “Hey, Cortana” feature. ..
Disable extra Windows notifications that are just advertisements. Go to Settings, then click on System, and then Notifications and Actions. Simply turn off the Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows.
Microsoft has just released a new update for the Windows 10 operating system that includes some new features and improvements. One of the main changes is that notifications will now be sent directly to your phone instead of being sent through Microsoft’s normal channels. This means that you won’t have to wait for a message to show up on your computer before you can see what’s happening, and you can always check for updates if you need to.
Method 8 – Check Hard Disk for Errors
If your hard drive is not working, you may have a problem with it. There are several ways to check the health of your hard drive, which I’ve written about before.
To check for problems with your hard drive or system files, you can use a disk utility or system file checker. ..
A hard drive is a storage device used to store data. It can be a digital or physical drive. There are many types of hard drives, but the most common ones are the SATA drives. SATA drives are popular because they are fast and reliable. They can be used for both personal and business use.
In many cases, repairing errors on the drive fixed the problem. In other cases, replacing the drive was necessary. ..
